From the moment you walk through our doors, you’ll be transported to a bygone era. As you explore our storied bar top, adorned with photographs, old newspaper clippings, and memorabilia that bear witness to our journey, you’ll instantly feel a deep connection to the vibrant history that surrounds you. During his long reign over City Bar, Charlie Trahan (3rd Generation Owner) established a distinct image for the bar and himself. He gained the nickname “Le Roi des Chous Rouge” or “The King of the Red Ass.”  Even after “Le Roi” passed away, his legend still lives on. His name and title are attached on a gold plaque in front of the bar at his favorite spot along with the stool that resembles his nickname. If you’ve been to City Bar Maurice, you may have seen the “horses’ ass” stool but were missing the history behind it.

The history of this bar is so rich but not many realize, City Bar Maurice was opened in 1927 in the middle of prohibition (1920-1933). In the days of Prohibition, when the air crackled with anticipation and whispers of underground gatherings, our establishment stood as a sanctuary for those seeking a taste of rebellion and community. We held steadfast, providing a haven where laughter mingled with the clinking of glasses, many nights of card games, and friendships were forged over shared secrets.

Today, we honor those traditions and the countless memories that have been etched into the very essence of our business. Our commitment to preserving the cultural heritage of our town is unwavering, as we continue to serve our patrons with the same warmth and hospitality that has been passed down through the generations.

Every hand we shake, every drink we pour, carries with it the flavors and stories that have shaped our identity. We invite you to immerse yourself in one of our World-Famous Bloody Marys whether it’s the first thing you do to start your day or right before we make the last call. Join us as we raise a glass to the past, revel in the present, and toast to the future of our cherished establishment.

Come, be a part of our living history. We can’t wait to welcome you with open arms and share the vibrant history of our culture and traditions. We are the epitome of the saying “If the walls could talk.”

“If this bar could talk, it would have many stories to tell, but I don’t know how many would be printable”
